Connecticut boasts over 45 colleges and universities, as well as more private schools per capita than any other state. While Connecticut is one of the smallest states, students of all ages are well served.

Over 11,000 students attend the esteemed Yale University, which originated as a private institution called the Collegiate School in 1701 in Killingworth, Connecticut, and later moved to New Haven, where it was renamed after its benefactor Elihu Yale. It is comprised of the undergraduate Yale College, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and ten professional schools. Yale continues its legacy of excellence by ranking among the nation's top scientific research universities. The university is investing over $500 million into new laboratory and teaching space, and another $500 million for research facilities in biotechnology and medicine. Yale's prestige affords Connecticut a tremendous resource for the future of life sciences.

Other notable universities in Connecticut include the United States Coast Guard Academy, Connecticut College in New London, the University of Hartford in Hartford, and Trinity College, also in Hartford. Additionally, there are twelve two-year colleges within the Connecticut Community College system, which provide training for skilled workers in business and manufacturing opportunities.
